I recently saw a video short from The Christian's Deck, which inspired me to write more about it. While Jesus was on the cross, he looked to the heaven's and said "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

It is a quote that non-Christians like to use to prove their point that if Jesus were truly God, then why did he say this.

The answer is in Psalms 22.  Jesus was quoting scripture from the Old Testament.
**Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David. Written around 1044 BC.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?
My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest.
Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them.
To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
“He trusts in the LORD,” they say, “let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast.
From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me.
My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet.
All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me.
They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.
But you, LORD, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.
Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.
Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen.
I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise you.
You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
For he has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.
The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise him— may your hearts live forever!
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him— those who cannot keep themselves alive.
Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!

Aijeleth Shahar [N] [S]

hind of the dawn, a name found in the title of Psalms 22 . It is probably the name of some song or tune to the measure of which the psalm was to be chanted. Some, however, understand by the name some instrument of music, or an allegorical allusion to the subject of the psalm.

Since I am doing a lot of reading and studying, I thought I would share some of the materials I am using. They include several bibles of different denominations, Bible websites that are fantastic for doing the lessons. I also found a few workbooks that are proving invaluable to my commitment to learning more about the great works of Jesus Christ. Some of the reading material I have are books about the Apostles.

All of the Bibles and books above I purchased on amazon.com with the exception of the New English Bible which I purchased used. I wanted the 1961 Oxford University Press version and it is out of print or far too expensive for me.  There are many publications I was able to get for free. I will list them below and add to it as I get more. If I can find the addresses for the publications I will update the page as I find them.  I hope you will seek out and share some of the information you find also.

I have found that when I begin studying bible lessons, reading the scriptures and even when I begin my prayers, there is always some type of distraction. It can be yawning or a distracting itch or my mind wandering. I always catch it and will begin my prayer again, making sure I slowly repeat it and pay attention to the meaning of each stanza. I also make it a point to let my distractor know that no matter what they send my way, I will always return to the Lords Prayer, nothing will distract me that much.

Another method I have been doing is praying to God prior to reading or doing bible lessons for his insight and understanding. I also pray to the Holy Spirit to counsel me and open my heart and mind to the Word. I have found this to be the most amazing way to begin my studies and opening my eyes to God's laws and Jesus's examples.

Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

2 Timothy 2:7

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God

1 Corinthians 2:12

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:15

 Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

Psalms 9:1

For those of you who would love to add more meaning to the month of December, here is a lovely way to spend the days up until December 24th. Every day read one chapter of Luke.

There are 24 chapters and when you reach the end, you will know Jesus Christ, our Lord. What a beautiful way to lead up to the eve.

For your convenience there are two links below to read the bible on line. The first is all Christian bible excluding the Catholic bible. The second link is the Catholic bible.  I use both often to compare scripture.

Faith Based

I wanted to make a blog that helps people like myself who are returning to my faith in Jesus. I have been lucky to connect with a person who is kind and generous in giving me wonderful biblical lessons. They are a great way to study the bible. Now this is my first time actually studying the bible. I grew up as a Catholic and attended Parochial school from first to third grade. After that it was sporadic. I have fond memories of going to mass as a child and as a teenager. Sadly I stopped attending mass and if I am honest it was from sheer laziness. And I regret this more than I can say.

So if you are also a returning Christian, I hope you will join me. I welcome any and all who love our God and his son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I will post information that I have found. Hopefully we can find redemption together.
